Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

John McGuinness

Question:

273 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will set up a commerical-state partnership to service and maintain all national monuments in view of their condition; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13614/00]

The position is that my Department has a network of district offices from which all necessary maintenance and conservation work on national monuments in State care is carried out. I am satisfied the work emanating from these offices is of the highest quality and the commitment of the staff to their work is second to none. I have no plans at this point to change the existing arrangement whereby such work is undertaken by my Department.
