Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Law Centres.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

277 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is only one solicitor at the Waterford law centre; the proposals he has in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13308/00]

The current sanctioned staffing level of the Waterford Law Centre is two solicitors, one law clerk and two clerical officers. I have been informed by the Legal Aid Board that due to a permanent solicitor, job-sharing, commencing maternity leave with effect from 27 April 2000 and the resignation of a temporary solicitor with effect from 4 May 2000 there has been one solicitor working in the Waterford Law Centre. However, I have been further informed by the Legal Aid Board that a second permanent solicitor is being assigned to Waterford and will be taking up duty there shortly.
