Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Bernard Allen

Question:

314 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason an application for a third level grant submitted by a person (details supplied) in County Cork has been rejected by the City of Cork VEC in view of the fact she is a third level post-leaving certificate student. [13304/00]

The person to whom the Deputy refers applied to City of Cork Vocational Education Committee for grant assistance under the main tenance grants scheme for students attending ESF-aided post leaving certificate courses 1999. To qualify for grant assistance under this scheme, a candidate must satisfy the relevant conditions pertaining to age, residence, means and nationality.

My officials have made inquiries with City of Cork Vocational Education Committee regarding the candidate in question and I understand that as the reckonable income exceeds the relevant income limits attaching to the 1999 scheme, she is ineligible for grant assistance.
