Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

David Stanton

Question:

78 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 63 of 29 March 2000, the study commissioned by CIE to carry out a strategic review of railway commuter services in Dublin and Cork which was due to be completed by the end of April 2000 has now been finalised; and, if so, if the study recommends that the rail link from Cork to east Cork be reopened; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13336/00]

The CIE strategic review of railway commuter services in Dublin and Cork is being undertaken by Ove Arup & Partners, Consulting Engineers. I am informed that work on the Dublin element of the study has been completed and that the Cork element will be completed in the near future. Among other things, the study will examine the potential for re-opening the Cork to Midleton rail line.
