Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Competition Law.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

92 Ms Clune asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the European Commission has opened proceedings against a company (details supplied) for breaching competition rules by keeping their prices artificially high; the steps, if any, she will take to investigate the price of the company's products here; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13620/00]

I understand the European Commission in a statement of objections has decided to open formal proceedings against Nintendo and seven other companies that distribute Nintendo products for breach of European Union anti-trust rules by keeping prices artificially high.

Alleged breaches of EU competition rules are investigated by the European Commission. Ireland, represented by the competition authority, co-operates fully in such investigations.

I have brought the Deputy's concerns to the attention of the competition authority.
