Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Conor Lenihan

Question:

93 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason for the £125 fee for processing successful applications by an employer seeking a work permit for non-EU residents; and the plans, if any, she has to remove this charge. [13621/00]

The fee charged in respect of successful applications for work permits to employ non-European economic area nationals is to cover the cost of processing of such applications by my Department.

The fee charged is on a sliding scale related to the period of time for which the permit is sought and varies from £25 for a one month permit to £125 for a permit lasting up to one year.

I do not have any plans to remove this charge at present.
