Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tourist Accommodation.

Donal Carey

Question:

134 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Finance if he has received requests from any registered guesthouse owners with regard to unregistered and unapproved accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13285/00]

I have received very few representations of this nature. As such representations have centred on the issue of registration/licensing of tourist accommodation, I have forwarded them to my colleague, the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Deputy McDaid, for his consideration.

The question presumably concerns the rateable status of unregistered accommodation and in this regard I can say that officials from my Department, the Valuation Office and the Office of the Parliamentary Draftsman are currently finalising the draft of the Valuation Bill which will be submitted to Government shortly and will be published in a matter of weeks.
