Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Donal Carey

Question:

135 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Finance the position with regard to the decision of the steering group established to examine the South Galway Flood Study Report particularly the Termon scheme; and if the farmers in north Clare will be notified of any decision involving the transfer of water into the adjoining Fergus River catchment area. [13286/00]

A scheme to alleviate the flooding in the Termon area of south Galway, which was one of the schemes suggested for further investigation in the major South Galway Flood Study Report, is one of the proposals currently being considered for implementation by the south Galway flooding steering group. As this proposal involves the transfer of waters to the adjoining Fergus River catchment area it will be necessary to establish its likely impacts downstream prior to implementation.

No work will be carried out until this information is available and those likely to be affected have been consulted.
