Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Irish Red Cross Society.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

65 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Defence when he will nominate persons to serve on the central council of the Irish Red Cross to replace those whose term of office expires next month; if he has concluded his examination of the possibility of appointing staff representatives to the council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13676/00]

Jack Wall

Question:

124 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the new Government appointees to the Central Council of the Irish Red Cross Society; if any of those appointed were outgoing members of the Council; if any staff members of the society have been nominated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13824/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 65 and 124 together.

The Government in nominating persons to the central council takes into account the overall qualifications of the individuals nominated to this important body. The Government carefully considers and nominates persons to the central council of the Irish Red Cross Society who it deems will make a positive contribution to the affairs of the society.
Nominations for the period 2000 to 2003 are expected to be made in the near future.
