Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Departmental Properties.

Jack Wall

Question:

74 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if all the residences of Orchard Park, the Curragh, have now been purchased by the tenants; and if the three houses that were tendered for have been sold. [13689/00]

To date, 82 of the occupants of Orchard Park have agreed to purchase the quarters in which they are residing. In addition, a tender competition, confined to members of the Permanent Defence Force, has been successfully completed for the four vacant houses in the estate. The Chief State Solicitor is in the process of preparing contracts of sale for these 86 houses. The contracts will be issued as soon as possible to the solicitors acting on behalf of the purchasers. At this stage it is anticipated that the vast bulk of the sales will be completed between September and the end of the year.

The occupants of the remaining 14 houses have been contacted and officials of my Department are endeavouring to establish in each case whether the individuals wish to purchase the property, or are in a position to do so.
