93 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the current number of dairy farmers and at a corresponding date in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13996/00]

The precise information requested by the Deputy is not available. Information is available on the number of dairy farms rather than dairy farmers.

Estimates for the number of dairy farms have been compiled for 1993, 1995 and 1997 from the farm structures survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office.

The following table shows the number of dairy farms for the years 1993, 1995 and 1997.
