Vol. 519 No. 7

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

69 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the need to urgently remedy the under funding of pensions at Aer Lingus and Aer Rianta over the past 30 years in order to provide adequately for pensioners from the two semi-State companies whose pensions have now fallen seriously behind those of comparable former workers. [14813/00]

I have not yet received a report from the chairmen of Aer Lingus and Aer Rianta on the work of the task force established by them to examine concerns which have been expressed to me by a number of Aer Lingus and Aer Rianta pensioners about the Irish airlines – general employees – superannuation scheme.

I am, however, advised that the task force expects to submit its report to the chairmen in the next few days. The chairmen will revert to me in due course in relation to the report of the task force. Accordingly, it would not be appropriate for me to comment in advance of the report from the chairmen on this particular matter.
