Vol. 519 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fox Hunting.

Tony Gregory

Question:

75 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 88 of 22 February 2000, he will outline the new rules and procedures relating to fox-hunting. [14802/00]

The rules and procedures to which the Deputy refers were introduced by the Hunting Association of Ireland – HAI – in August, 1998, and apply to affiliate bodies of the HAI, most notably the Irish Masters of Foxhounds Association, the Irish Masters of Harriers Association and the Irish Foot Harriers Association. The HAI took this initiative after I expressed concern about certain practices associated with fox hunting and following discussion with my Department. I am arranging for a copy of the rules and procedures to be sent to the Deputy.
