Question:

185 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24 will obtain a cataract operation; if he will make a direct representation to the appointed hospital to ensure that this person receives this procedure as soon as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14868/00]

The responsibility for the provision of services in the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital now rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate this matter and to reply directly to the Deputy.

186 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in arranging a consultation for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is a public patient and waiting for a hip replacement; and if he can expedite the case and bring forward the date of appointment to June 2000. [14889/00]

The provision of medical treatment in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive officer of the authority to investigate position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
