Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - House Prices.

Question:

249 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has had discussions with the Department of Finance in relation to a proposal to either remove or reduce VAT on the sale of houses to average income groups similar to a situation which existed in Scotland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14871/00]

I have had no such discussions with the Minister for Finance. The VAT treatment of housing is of course a matter for the Minister for Finance and is also subject to the provisions of the relevant EU directives.
