Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Paul McGrath

Question:

404 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received proposals for road safety works at Taughmon national school, County Westmeath; and if he will give the up-to-date situation in this regard. [15281/00]

My Department is currently processing an application from the management authorities of the school in question for the provision of car parking space.

I should point out, however, that individual school authorities are responsible, in the first instance, for ensuring the safety and welfare of children and others in their care. While my Department is prepared to consider applications from school authorities for grant aid towards improving safety arrangements at individual schools, grant aid is not available for works outside the vested area of the school.
