Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Citizenship Applications.

Michael Ring

Question:

106 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if a person (details supplied), currently living in Northern Ireland, will be approved Irish citizenship and residency. [14905/00]

This person in September 1997 applied for registration of his birth in the foreign births register in the Department of Foreign Affairs in order to obtain Irish citizenship on the basis of descent from a grandparent born in Ireland. He was informed that the documents he presented were not sufficient and was asked for the originals of the birth, marriage and death certificates of his mother and grandfather. As soon as these docu ments are received the application will be considered by the Department.

If it is established that he derives Irish citizenship from a grandparent born in Ireland and his birth is registered accordingly, the person concerned will have the same rights of residence as any other Irish citizen.
