Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Snow Report.

Bernard Allen

Question:

124 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the reason the Football Association of Ireland was informed that the Sir Frederick Snow report would be completed by 15 August 1999; the reason for the delay in completing the report; the number of drafts the report went through; and the list of people in other Departments who were given copies of the report or drafts of the report. [15116/00]

On 9 July 1999 the Department commissioned consultants to review its policy with regard to air safety, including the training, operational requirements of the Air Corps, at Casement Aerodrome. Their draft report was received in the Department on 26 August, 1999. The final report was received on 24 November, 1999.

Following receipt of the final report copies were forwarded to the Irish Aviation Authority, Aer Rianta and the Department of the Taoiseach for their observations. The recommendations in the report are being examined in my Department with a view to updating the Department's current policy in relation to air safety and best modern policy pertaining to air operations at Baldonnel. It is expected that these deliberations will be completed shortly.
