Question:

172 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the capital programmes contained in the national development plan and funded by his Department that have commenced or will commence in the Westmeath constituency in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15468/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 171 and 172 together.

The National Development Plan, 2000-2006, which was published in November 1999, contains provisions totalling £862 million for programmes which will be of concern to my Department over the next seven years. Specifically, there will be £357 million for investment in tourism marketing, training and product, £85 million for additional investment in regional recreational and sport infrastructure and £420 million for local development initiatives under the social inclusion sub-programme, targeted at disadvantaged communities, drugs and young people at risk.

The implementation arrangements have still to be finalised in agreement with the European Commission, so it is not possible to identify services or capital programmes under the aegis of my Department on a county-constituency basis.
