Vol. 520 No. 3

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

71 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason farmers cannot use mini bulk bags for use in animal feed on farms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15663/00]

The practice of reusing mini bulk bags for feedingstuffs at manufacturing and retail level has become prevalent in recent times. This practice constitutes an unnecessary risk to the spread of animal disease and accordingly has been banned under EU legislation regulating the circulation of feed materials and the marketing of compound feedingstuffs.
