Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

145 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position on the urban renewal tax designation scheme for towns in County Mayo; if he has accepted the recommendation submitted by Mayo County Council, without alteration; when he hopes to implement the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15784/00]

As stated in my reply to Question No. 205 on 7 March 2000 a total of five town renewal plans have been submitted by Mayo County Council under the town renewal scheme. A further plan was also submitted jointly by Sligo and Mayo County Council in relation to the towns of Bellaghy – Charlestown.

The expert advisory panel is currently examining the town renewal plans. On foot of the recommendations made to me by the panel and subject to the agreement of the Minister for Finance, I expect to be in a position to announce details of the areas to which financial incentives are to be applied within the next two months.
