Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Prison Staff.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

247 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in the case of an application by a person (details supplied) in County Meath for a placement as a prison officer, his application is valid or current; if he has been called for training; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16336/00]

Recruitment to the Prison Service is by way of open competition run by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission which is an independent body and, as such, I am not involved in the selection process. However, I have checked with the commissioners who have informed me that they have no record of an application having been received from the person referred to by the Deputy in relation to the most recent competition held in 1998 or the previous competitions held in 1995 and 1993.
