Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Austin Currie

Question:

302 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the dissatisfaction among the board of management and staff at a school (details supplied) in County Dublin that remedial work and refurbishment promised for July 2000 has been postponed; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that staff are no longer prepared to work in conditions of leaking roofs, damp walls, sewer age odours, mould growing indoors, peeling ceilings, flooded halls, bad ventilation, dirty unhygienic carpets, mice infestation and an appalling staffroom; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that members of staff fear for their health and the health of children and ancillary staff; if he will arrange for the necessary remedial work to be done without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16688/00]

My Department is currently processing an application from the management authorities of the school in question for grant-aid towards improvement works.

The board of management will be kept informed of developments.
