Vol. 521 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mortality Levels.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

134 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the abnormally high death rate from cancer in the Fosses area of County Donegal and the fear that these deaths may be linked to asbestos in public water mains serving the area; if he will order that investigations be made into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17748/00]

Investigations into any unusually high levels of mortality from cancer in County Donegal and possible links to environmental factors in the area are a matter for the North Western Health Board and the National Cancer Registry. I have written to the chief executive officer of the North Western Health Board to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
