Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Protest Re Dismissal.

Donal Carey

Question:

153 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will use a third-party initiative to resolve the dispute with a person (details supplied) who has been protesting at the Kildare Street Gate of Leinster House for a number of years now; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18146/00]

The dispute has its origins in the dismissal of the person in question by the Agricultural Institute in 1964. His dismissal was a matter for the Council of the Institute. The relevant legislation governing the matter was the Agriculture (An Foras Talúntais) Act, 1958. Article 17 (2) of that Act stated that ".the members of the staff of the Institute shall be appointed and removed by or under the authority of the council".

In the circumstances, I regret that I cannot be of assistance in this case.
