Written Answers. - Freedom of Information Act.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

170 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997 made to his Department in each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18499/00]

A total of 781 requests have been received by my Department under the Freedom of Information Act since its inception on 21 April 1998. There were 150 requests in 1998, 420 requests in 1999 with 211 requests to date in 2000.

Some 48% of the requests are from individuals seeking access to personal information about themselves with the remainder accounting for requests from a variety of sources including the media, Oireachtas Members and businesses.
