Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

185 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will ascertain from the Office of Public Works if it will pipe a drain-way it opened in the 1950s as it effectively splits in two a holding in County Mayo. [18045/00]

The drain in question is a maintainable channel on the Corrib Clare arterial drainage scheme. The piping of the stretch of open channel, however, would not fall within the Commissioners of Public Works' maintenance responsibility for the scheme.

Mr. Byrne has been advised, on foot of correspondence received from him, that the commissioners would have no objection to the proposed piping, subject to specified conditions, should he wish to proceed with the works himself.

Question:

186 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will ascertain from the Office of Public Works when works will be carried out to a bridge (details supplied) in County Mayo. [18048/00]

The bridge referred to at Curnaushlane Bridge, Islandeady, Castlebar, County Mayo is a crossing on a channel in the Moy catchment drainage scheme. The site has been examined and works will be carried out during the current maintenance season.
