Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

220 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the details of the domiciliary care allowance recipients in each health board region and of the qualifying children for this payment; and the number who are medical card holders in each health board region. [17956/00]

I have had inquiries made of the health boards in relation to the Deputy's question. The following table provides a summary of health board responses as at 31 December 1999, the most recent period for which statistical information is available.

Domiciliary care allowance, DCA, is paid in respect of eligible children with an intellectual and-or physical and sensory disability. On the number of children in respect of whom DCA is paid who are medical card holders, a number of boards were unable to supply this information in the time available. In such cases, I have requested that the chief executive officer of the relevant health board-authority reply directly to the Deputy supplying the appropriate data as a matter of urgency.
