Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

331 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when an appeal for unemployment benefit will be finalised for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [18082/00]

The person concerned had been in receipt of unemployment assistance since June 1995. He was interviewed by an inspector of the Department in December 1999 to establish that he satisfied the statutory conditions of being available for and genuinely seeking work.

The deciding officer, having considered the inspector's report, decided that the person was not available for or genuinely seeking work and disallowed his claim accordingly.

The person concerned appealed this decision to the independent social welfare appeals office on 2 May 2000. An oral hearing of the appeal took place on 8 June 2000. The appeals officer, having considered all the evidence presented, has disallowed the appeal. The appeals officer's decision issued to the person on 16 June 2000.
