Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Lucan Demesne.

Austin Currie

Question:

351 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the up to date position in relation to Lucan Demesne, County Dublin in terms of the work proposed and the time scale for public access; and if the proposed developments include a foot-bridge across the Lucan by-pass, adjacent to Kew Park housing estate. [18129/00]

I have responded to a number of similar questions on this issue already and the position remains broadly unchanged from that outlined in my response to the most recent one, Question No. 460 dated 10 May 2000.

Two of the three local authorities concerned have yet to complete the legal transfer documents but I am pleased to confirm that all of the Local Authorities have now confirmed acceptance of the conditions governing development funding secured by my Department over the next five years for the demesne. A principal condition is that the demesne be opened to the public as early as possible.

As far as I am aware the proposals do not provide for a footbridge over the Lucan by-pass.

The question of implementing the development proposals and the time scale for public access is primarily a matter for the three local authorities concerned. Consequently these issues are best addressed by those local authorities viz. Fingal, Kildare and South Dublin.
