Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Projects Funding.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

352 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the assistance she will give to a project in (details supplied) County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18257/00]

While I acknowledge the value of the work to be carried out, I regret that there is no funding at my disposal available to support the project.

I wish to advise the Deputy that site synopses are available for sites throughout the country which have been surveyed by Dúchas, the Heritage Service of my Department. These contain details of species and habitats within individual sites. The project manager is welcome to apply to designations section, Dúchas regarding details of any sites surveyed in the Waterford area. Further information is also available from Dúchas conservation rangers in Waterford of management plans prepared under the EU Habitats Directive.

Considerable resources have been committed to survey wide areas of the country, prepare management plans and also aid species protection initiatives which leaves little or no funding available to support publication projects such as the one he mentions.

The project promoters may wish to consider applying to the Heritage Council for additional financial support for the project.
