Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

384 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the title deeds will be made available to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [17983/00]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this application refers to a transfer of part which was lodged on 25 June 1996 and completed on 31 December 1999. The Deputy will appreciate that the Land Registry operates a system of registration of title whereby all relevant particulars concerning the land and its ownership are entered on special registers call folios maintained in the Land Registry. A folio takes the place of a large number of documents comprising title deeds in respect of unregistered property. Title deeds are retained in the Land Registry for proof of ownership purposes. A certified copy of the folio which will show the ownership details may be obtained, by application, on payment of the specified fee.
