Conor Lenihan

Question:

430 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will meet a delegation from the Irish Deaf Society to discuss proposals to establish a model school for the deaf. [18314/00]

I understand that arrangements are currently under way for senior officials of my Department to meet the Irish Deaf Society to discuss its concerns regarding the education of deaf children.

Question:

431 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will grant an additional learning support teacher to Scoil Mochua, Celbridge, County Kildare, in view of the large number of pupils at the school who have learning difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 434 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received recent correspondence from the Scoil Mochua Parents Association, Celbridge, County Kildare in regard to the availability of resources and supports for children with learning difficulties; if the request for a further learning support teacher will be favourably considered by him in view of the total number of children at the school; the number of children in need of education support; the need to put in place the necessary support to assist pupils, teachers and management; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 453 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has assessed the needs of pupils at a school (details supplied) in County Kildare many of whom have special needs that cannot be addressed within the learning support staff already allocated; and if he will make an extra learning support teacher available to the school. Emmet Stagg

Question:

495 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the appointment of a further learning support teacher for Scoil Mochua, Celbridge, County Kildare, in view of the number of children who attend the school and who have learning difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18336/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 431, 434, 453 and 495 together.

I am aware of the correspondence referred to by Deputy Durkan. I have requested my Department's inspectorate to review the need for additional teaching support for the school referred to by the Deputies. My officials will be in contact with the school authorities when this review is completed.
