Vol. 522 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

John McGuinness

Question:

195 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, further to parliamentary Question No. 284 of 16 November 1999, Carlow County Council has been granted approval to accept a tender for the construction of a house for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; the date approval was given; if the construction work has been undertaken; and if the council has drawn down the funds for the project. [18713/00]

Approval to acceptance of the lowest tender including a budget cost for the provision of a new house in this case was issued to Carlow County Council on 4 November 1999. I understand from inquiries made with the council that demolition of the existing cottage has been undertaken and that construction work on the new dwelling is due to commence next week. While the council has not so far drawn down any Exchequer funding for this particular project it should be noted that the local authority housing construction programme is funded by a combination of Exchequer capital funding and internal capital receipts.
