Vol. 522 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ulick Burke

Question:

196 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans to replace the sewerage lines in Loughrea, County Galway, due to the increased capacity demand as a result of expansion of housing developments in the town; if funding is available for replacement of an increased capacity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18715/00]

I have approved funding to allow work to start on phase one of the Loughrea sewerage scheme which will provide new wastewater treatment facilities for a population equivalent of 5,000. Phase two of the scheme will be dependent on the pace of future development in the area.

The Loughrea development of services scheme which is intended to provide services for 1,500 residential sites, has also been approved for funding under the serviced land initiative.
