Vol. 522 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Recognition.

Joe Higgins

Question:

230 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give permanent recognition to Castleknock Educate Together primary school. [18582/00]

Castleknock Educate Together primary school commenced operation with provisional recognition from my Department in September 1999. This entitles the school to funding from my Department towards the cost of teacher salaries and the operating costs of the school.

There is strong evidence that, by September next, pupil numbers will have grown sufficiently for the school to demonstrate long-term viability and secure permanent recognition. It will then be eligible to apply to my Department for capital grant-aid towards the provision of a permanent school building.

My Department has anticipated this development by taking steps to identify a suitable location to provide permanent accommodation for the school.

The application for permanent recognition by Castleknock Educate Together national school will be reviewed next September in the light of actual enrolments and a decision on the matter will be made at that stage.
