243 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of the current and capital expenditure for the primary, second level and third level sectors in respect of each of the years 1987 to 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18730/00]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods):

The gross current and capital expenditure for the years 1987 to 2000 for the first, second and third levels of education are contained in the following table. The 2000 figures are based on the revised estimates. The figures for the other years are based on the outturn. The increased funding evident in these figures for the years 1997-2000 clearly demonstrates the Government's commitment to the education sector.

Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will outline the major expenditure of a capital nature, spent or planned, in respect of construction or refurbishments in the Dublin North West constituency over the past five years for primary, second level and third level projects; the schools or colleges involved; and the cost of each project in this regard.
