Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Legal Actions.

Question:

93 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Defence the number of legal actions entered into by the Department within the last 12 months; the number that are either successful, failed or on-going; the total cost of these actions; the number of barristers employed; and the amount of money given to each barrister. [19073/00]

During the past 12 months my Department has initiated legal proceedings on one occasion when a High Court injunction was obtained against a number of persons who were trespassing on Curragh lands. One junior counsel acted for the Minister. Legal costs in the case were paid from the vote of the Chief State Solicitor's office.
