Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Border Inspection Posts.

Question:

106 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the actions taken and planned to address the deficiencies in the final report of a mission (details supplied) carried out here from 27 January 2000 to 3 February 2000 concerning border inspection posts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19050/00]

I welcome such reports as they greatly assist in the continuous review and improvement of our border inspection posts. My Department, having reviewed the mission report, has modified the procedures manuals issued to staff at the border inspection posts in the light of the recommendations made. In addition, and as part of this ongoing development, officials of my Department are in discussions with the relevant portal and airport authorities on the provision of facilities appropriate to each border inspection post.
