Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Monica Barnes

Question:

47 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of local authorities which have measures in place to implement the packaging waste directive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18565/00]

The Waste Management (Packaging) Regulations 1997 and the Waste Management Packaging) (Amendment Regulations, 1998, transpose into Irish legislation, or are otherwise intended to facilitate compliance with, relevant requirements of European Parliament and Council Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste. Enforcement of these regulations is a matter for individual local authorities and one in which I have no function.
