Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Denis Naughten

Question:

924 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a person (details supplied) will have his application for a certificate of naturalisation approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20366/00]

Due to the various procedures involved in processing an application for a certificate of naturalisation in respect of a person of full age, together with the high number of applications being received, the average processing time is approximately two and a half years. Although, in this instance, the applicant's case is well advanced, it is likely that it will not be completed for several months yet.

Extra resources are currently being allocated by me to the immigration and citizenship division of my Department with a view to reducing the delays in processing naturalisation applications, which will in time impact considerably on present delays.

As soon as full consideration has been given to this application, I will advise both the applicant and the Deputy of my decision.
