Emmet Stagg

Question:

1133 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he is in a position to sanction the appointment of psychologists to cover the remainder of the primary schools in north County Kildare; if not, when the announcements will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20665/00]

At present, all second level schools and approximately a quarter of all primary schools in County Kildare, have access to the services of the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS. As of 3 October 2000, 20 additional psychologists are in post, and more will be joining NEPS during the term. As soon as they have completed their induction programme, they will be deployed in schools. Some of them will be joining the team serving north County Kildare.
