Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - MOT Certificates.

Michael Ring

Question:

147 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will allow a UK, French or German MOT certificate to be valid here until its expiry date rather than requiring car owners to do the Irish equivalent of the MOT; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21055/00]

EU Directive 96/96/EC requires a member state to test vehicles registered in that state. It does not provide for mutual recognition of roadworthiness certificates between member states.
