Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Licences.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

69 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 67 of 29 June 1999, she will clarify her position and the power available to her in relation to the granting of a licence for the re-transmission of radio broadcasts for a special category broadcaster (details supplied) in accordance with the provision of the Wireless Telegraphy Acts, 1926 to 1972, or related legislation. [21392/00]

The regulatory framework for the licensing of sound broadcasting services is set out in the Radio and Television Act, 1988. I have no function in relation to the provisions concerned. These are matters for the Independent Television and Radio Commission, IRTC, and the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation, ODTR.
