Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Liam Aylward

Question:

254 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans in her Department to have work carried out to the steeple at Grangefertagh, Galmoy, County Kilkenny so as to restore it to a proper state of repair. [21617/00]

A detailed inspection to determine the condition of Grangefertagh Tower, will be carried out between now and the end of the year as soon as scaffolding required to enable the inspection to proceed can be brought in and erected on site. All available scaffolding is currently in use. As a first step towards full inspection, an access scaffold was erected to allow the gateway to be unblocked. A visual inspection of the tower from the inside at that time found that it was not in an unsafe condition.
