Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Closed Circuit Television Systems.

Tony Gregory

Question:

272 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his response to the request of the Berkely Environment Awareness Group for CCTV monitors at the junction of Berkely Road/Nelson Street/Blessington Street, Dublin 7, in view of increasing anti-social behaviour and the intensification of multiple occupancy dwellings in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21761/00]

There is no record in my Department of any formal application being received from the Berkely Environment Awareness Group for a Garda CCTV camera at the junction of Berkely Road / Nelson Street / Blessington Street, Dublin 7.

I have also been informed by the Garda authorities that no application has been received by the advisory committee which was established by the Garda Commissioner to examine CCTV applications, from the Berkely Environment Awareness Group for a Garda CCTV camera at this location either.

I understand, however, that requests for the provision of CCTV cameras in the general area referred to by the Deputy have been received and that discussions have taken place at local level.
