Vol. 524 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Michael Finucane

Question:

104 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Defence if colour blindness debars applications for entry to the Defence Forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21873/00]

The vision standards required for entry to the Defence Forces are laid down by the military authorities. The vision requirements stipulate, inter alia, that all applicants must have normal colour vision. Accordingly, an applicant who is colour blind is ineligible for entry to the Defence Forces.
