Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - General Registry Office.

Denis Naughten

Question:

264 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children when the General Registry Office based in County Roscommon will have completed the established database of its records; the future plans for the facility at Racecourse Road, Roscommon, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21962/00]

The computerisation of the historical records of the General Register Office is being carried out at a facility on the Racecourse Road in Roscommon town. It is planned to have this work completed by end-2002. With regard to the use of the facility following the completion of the computerisation work, this is a matter for the Office of Public Works and the owner of the building. I understand from the Office of Public Works that it has circulated all Departments about this and that a number have suggested that they would have use for it.
