Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Tony Killeen

Question:

288 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Health and Children the current position regarding the proposed improvement of the accident and emergency department, radiology department, outpatients area and other sections of Ennis General Hospital, County Clare; and when work on the project is expected to commence. [22146/00]

The provision of services to patients in Ennis General Hospital is the responsibility of the Mid Western Health Board.

Ennis General Hospital plays a vital role in the delivery of acute hospital services to the people of County Clare. I am committed to the future development of the hospital, and as the Deputy will be aware, in April of this year I approved the establishment of a project team to prepare detailed briefs for identified priority developments at the hospital. This is the essential first step in the planning process to improve the infrastructure at the hospital to meet the needs of the 21st century. When the work of the project team is completed, it will be possible to assess the timescale for priority developments.
