Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

369 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the stones of the original facade of the Abbey Theatre are in storage and have been offered to the State by the owner of the artefacts provided suitable reconstruction is provided; if she will ensure that this offer is availed of and that the original facade is re-erected in some acceptable format within the context of the possible redevelopment or relocation of the theatre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21944/00]

The question of incorporating the artefacts of the old Abbey Theatre in any redevelopment of the Abbey Theatre is a matter for the National Theatre Society. The society is aware of the existence of the original facade and is, I understand, prepared to consider its possible use when the design stage of any new development has been reached.
